How to point your Network Solutions domain at your Service Bay Digital website
Your domain is registered at Network Solutions. To make it serve the website we built you, you change two settings called nameservers in your own Network Solutions account. It takes about three minutes and you keep the domain.
Read this part first. Nameservers move your whole domain at once — website and email. Network Solutions says the same thing on its own help page. So do not change them until we tell you we have copied your email records across, or your email stops the same minute and you will not be told.
The steps
Tell us before you touch anything
Reply to our email and say go. We copy every DNS record your domain already has — your email records especially — into our system first, and we check them twice. Network Solutions keeps your mail records under Advanced DNS Records, and its own help page says that section only works while your nameservers point at Network Solutions. So the moment you make this change, that screen stops being where your records live. Copying them across first is what makes that a non-event instead of an outage.
Sign in to Network Solutions
Go to networksolutions.com and sign in. If you cannot remember the login, use Network Solutions’ own password-reset link on the sign-in page — we cannot do this part for you, and no honest company would ask you for that password.
Open your domain
Select Domains on the left-hand side, then select your domain by name. That opens its Domain Overview page.
Find the nameservers
Scroll to the Advanced Tools section and click Manage next to Nameservers (DNS). Take a screenshot of what is there now before you change it — we keep our own copy, but a second one costs you nothing.
Enter the two nameservers we sent you
Replace what is listed with the two nameservers from our email, then click Save. They are different for every domain, so use the two we sent you — not two you found somewhere else.
Tell us it is done
Reply to our email. Network Solutions says nameserver changes may take 24 to 48 hours to update throughout the internet. We watch your email records the whole way through and check them again a day later.
Questions people actually ask
There is a “Custom Nameservers” button. Is that the one?
No — and this is the one place on Network Solutions where it is genuinely easy to end up on the wrong screen. Custom Nameservers is for building your own branded nameservers, and it asks you for an IP address. That is not what you are doing. You want Manage next to Nameservers (DNS), which just asks for names. If a screen is asking you for an IP address, back out and reply to our email instead.
Will this break my email?
Not if you tell us first. Network Solutions states the mechanism plainly on its own page, describing a move in the other direction: when nameservers move, “your existing nameservers will no longer be used. As a result, websites and emails from other providers will be lost.” It works the same way coming toward us. That is the whole reason we copy your mail records across and verify them before you change anything — and why we ask you not to do this on your own on a Friday.
Will I still be able to edit my DNS at Network Solutions?
No, and that is expected. Their help page says the Advanced DNS section only works while your nameservers point at Network Solutions. After the change, your records live with us and you ask us — or use your own dashboard — to change them. Your domain registration stays exactly where it is.
Do I lose my domain?
No. It stays registered to you at Network Solutions, you keep paying Network Solutions for it, and it stays yours. All that changes is which company answers when someone looks your domain up.
My domain says it is locked.
A registrar lock stops the domain being transferred to another company. It does not stop you changing nameservers in your own account, and we are not transferring your domain.
Can I change it back?
Yes. The same screen takes the old nameservers back, and we will hand you your records to put back with them. Nothing here is one-way.
